If you didn't catch it, this past weekend, I held a poll on Twitter that was created by a porn bro of mine, which asked “What was the best era for gay porn?” This is by far, one of the hardest debates any sane, healthy man can have and one that should be given a lot of attention and thought to. In the poll, there were 4 categories, choices being:

  1. Vintage (pre '90s) Gay Porn
  2. '90s Gay Porn
  3. 2000-2015 Gay Porn
  4. Contemporary Gay Porn

In the end, category 3, the 2000-2015 era won with 40 percent of the votes but let’s take a look at each era in porn and some of the great stuff that was produced.

Vintage (pre-'90s) Gay Porn

Technically, this has the greatest gap time. It literally includes ANYTHING before the 1990s but due to my age, I can only highlight certain memories and pornstars pre-'90s. Of course, I immediately think of universal names like Jeff Stryker, Chad Douglas and his huge cock, Steve Hammond, another Chad, Chad Johnson, and studios like COLT that although lasted strongly into the 2000s, was founded in 1967. Making it applicable. Interesting fact: in looking up Colt Studios I came to find out that on February 23, 2007, in celebration of Colt Studio Group 40th anniversary, San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom signed a proclamation declaring it as “Colt Studio Day”. Great excuse to visit San Francisco in February!

'90s Gay Porn

Ok so the '90s I remember. And for me the '90s was the era of the major porn studio and popular “pornstars”. The '90s gave us men like Blade Thompson, Rob Cryston, Bobby Blake, Tom Katt, Steve Fox, Paul Carrigan, Jason Branch, Arpad Miklos, Zak Spears, Donnie Russo, Carl Hardwick, Ken Ryker, Kyle McKenna, Michael Brandon, Doug Perry, Paul Morgan, Michael Brandon, Jeff Palmer, and many more! The list goes on and on. It's clear this is when I discovered porn and had my true sexual awakening. Granted, some of these actors went on to continue to work in the 2000s, but I would argue they made their impact and gathered fans during the wonderful 90s.

2000-2015 Gay Porn

The winning era! After writing about the '90s, this was actually a tough choice between the '90s and the 2000s, but the turn of the century gave way to major improvements in technology! While I grew up with a computer my whole life, the 2000s really was a time when everyone started to have access to the internet in their day-to-day lives with cell phones, the rise of social media and website run studios like Sean Cody, Next Door Male, Randy Blue, Corbin Fisher, Pornhub and more! These sites have put a large number of men in front of the camera and will always thank these sites for taking off the way they did.

Contemporary Gay Porn

The true age of social media porn. “Contemporary” has allowed anyone with an iPhone to create great videos and share them with the rest of the world. Sites like Only Fans, Just for Fans, and social media pages like Twitter, and Tumblr (before their anti-porn demise) have allowed for porn to literally be anywhere. Honestly, who knows what's next and I am excited to lean back and watch more gay porn unfold.
