If you asked me what I hate about TV today it's the lack of original ideas. Streaming services allow us to view quickly produced content, but I am over every great show of the past being rebooted. Well, call me a hypocrite. I am going to manifest a reboot. For me, I want to bring back the JimmyZ BBJAM.
Born and raised in Los Angeles–close to Muscle Beach–I always admired bodybuilders. As kid of the 90’s, I admired men and bodybuilders who depicted THE Alpha Male. Handsome men full of muscle, confidence, and the envy of every male around them.
The late Jimmy Z‘s shows allowed admirers like me to meet those gods on Earth close-up. Live, on-stage events combining a bodybuilding competition with muscle worship fantasies.
Alas, I never got to see a JimmyZ BBJAM in person. I honestly do not know what I was doing back in the day during these events. If I could go back in time, I would tell my young self to enjoy those shows live in person. And to invent bitcoin, haha.
This week I drove past the bar formerly called Faultline where these shows were held. With the right financial investment I'd take the space over and recreate those shows with new and emerging talent.
I want to bring back the JimmyZ BBJAM.
Like I said, I hate an unnecessary reboot, but Bodybuilder’s Jam 2022 is very much needed in today’s world. While every city has their strip club or gay bar with “celebrity” go-gos, JimmyZ BBJAM featured those bodybuilders in porn we wanted to touch, feel, and admire in a celebratory, fun environment.
If we did a reboot today, who would you want to see up-close and live?
I intend to produce my version of a JimmyZ BBJAM. Please let me know if you would be interested in this kind of event.
