With the new live-action He-Man: Masters of the Universe movie now in theatres (coincidentally out during pride month), I had to revisit many of the erotic images and cosplay features I’ve seen of the iconic himbo He-man himself. The original Masters of the Universe movie came out the year I was born, starring the equally intelligent and sexy Dolph Lundgren. So, you can say it was written in the stars that I would grow up to love muscular men flexing their strength and bodies while displaying almost nothing at all. And while the latest installment of the He-Man universe starring Nicholas Galitzine doesn’t seem to be doing quite well in the box office, we here at Muscle Service will forever appreciate anyone trying to put more muscular men in skimpy outfits on the big screen.
Arguably, many people have always spoken on how He-Man is a gay icon. He is the embodiment of traditional heroic and handsome masculinity while showing various signs of campy fun and sexual undertones. Admittingly, I haven’t watched too much He-Man in my life, nor have I gotten the chance to watch the latest movie, but people have told me there is a line in which Skeletor comments on the “Big long sword dangling between [he-man’s] glorious thighs”. I mean come on; at this point the gay porn parody is writing itself.
